A suspect in a Clearwater shooting was seriously injured when she crashed her vehicle while being chased by deputies early Sunday, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies learned early Sunday that Brittney Dinkins, 26, was a suspect in a shooting being investigated by Clearwater police. They got a description of her vehicle and, just before 7 a.m., spotted it at East Lake Road and Boot Ranch Boulevard.

Since Dinkins was wanted for a felony offense, deputies gave chase.

Investigators say Dinkins was traveling north on East Lake Road at a high rate of speed when she lost control of her vehicle and crashed into a barrier at East Lake and Keystone Road in Tarpon Springs. The vehicle then caught fire.

Dinkins was air-lifted to St. Joseph's Hospital with life-threatening injuries. A passenger, 22-year-old Devetrius Jones, was taken to a different hospital with less serious injuries.
