The incident in Thonotosassa Tuesday that ended with one man found dead and another shot and killed by Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputies started as some type of domestic situation between two brothers.

The sheriff's office has identified the dead men as 51-year-old Scott Tomlinson, who lived as the home where the shooting happened and his brother, 53-year-old Todd Tomlinson, of Plant City.

Deputies responded to a domestic call at 11000 Smoken Gun Lane in Thonotosassa just after 3 p.m. According to authorities, Todd Tomlinson had called a family member about the domestic situation and that person called the sheriff's office.

When deputies arrived, an armed Todd Tomlinson was in the driveway of the Smoken Gun Lane address, a 5,000-square-foot residence on 3.4 acres.

According to authorities, deputies ordered Todd Tomlinson several times to drop the handgun he was holding. Todd Tomlinson then raised his weapon at deputies, which led the deputies to fire several times, authorities said.

Tomlinson was struck multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies then searched the residence and discovered the body of Scott Tomlinson in the kitchen. Scott Tomlinson had been shot multiple times, authorities said.

Officials said it remains unknown what transpired between the two brothers prior to the shooting.

The case remains under investigation.

Meanwhile, Deputies Mark Barnwell and Izzy Roquemore, who were not injured, have been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of an administrative review into the shooting.

Barnwell, 52, is a 29-year veteran of the department. Roquemore, 45, has been with the sheriff's office for 15 years.
