Troopers are asking for the public’s help with a hit-and-run that killed a pedestrian last month in Port Richey.

The crash happened shortly after 11 p.m. on July 30 on U.S. 19 at the intersection with Ja Mar Boulevard.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Thomas Edward Howell, 41, of Weeki Wachee, was walking north in the outside right turn lane of U.S. 19 when he was hit by a red pickup truck and dragged for more than 40 feet.

Howell died from his injuries at the scene of the crash.

The truck fled the scene heading north on U.S. 19. Troopers described the truck as a late-model red Dodge extended-cab pickup truck with damage to its front right side.

The Florida Highway Patrol released photos of the victim shortly before the crash and the possible suspect vehicle on Thursday.
