Students at a Polk County school raised thousands of dollars and held a pep rally for their school resource deputy who they say is like a second mother.

"Get well Noel" chants could be heard loud and clear inside of Mulberry High School’s gym. The students weren’t cheering on any of their sports teams -- they were cheering for Deputy Tambrii Noel.

Deputy Noel is battling thyroid cancer and hasn’t been able to serve and protect at the school where she’s worked for years.

In 2011 she was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism and has been dealing with all of the medications and issues associated with the disease. Noel recently had Thyroidectomy surgery and is preparing for radiation treatment.

“It’s been hard but everyday it’s been, get up, say your prayers, you ask for another day and see how you can help someone or maybe someone can help you,” Noel said.

The school’s assistant principal, Lorl Everett says that’s just what students decided to do.

“We’ve collected over $3,000 from our student body in three days,” Everett said.

A small token of their appreciation for a woman who students say was more than a school resource deputy.

“I want her to know that no matter what she goes through, she can always count on me and the class of 2016," Mulberry High School senior, Kahari Love said. "Especially the Mulberry football team. We just want her to know that we love her and we hope for the best.”

Deputy Noel said she’s just thankful these kids put all of this together.

“It’s an amazing feeling when someone notices your absence and your presence," Noel said. "It’s really nice being a part of the community and feeling that back today is just amazing."

Deputy Noel made an announcement at the pep rally that she’s doing a lot better and she plans to return to work on Monday.
