The City of Tampa has made it a priority to build up the Sulphur Springs community, and now local organizations are pitching in to do their part with the cleanup.

On Saturday, 150 volunteers from multiple organizations came together to help revive the neighborhoods, and work to make the community a healthier place.

Volunteers with Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful spruced up gardens for people in the community, Community Stepping Stones installed and painted new mailboxes with a new Sulphur Springs logo.

The Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA taught the community how to grow their own food and Rebuilding Together Tampa Bay made homes safer for years to come.

“We’re not in this for the short run, we want a lasting presence in here,” said Pablo Aviles of Rebuilding Together Tampa Bay. “We are looking at completing a minimum of 175 homes over the next two years.”

The commitment these organizations have made to the neighborhood is what residents say is necessary to make the area a proud and thriving community.

“I think there’s strength in numbers and with everyone coming together it’s better,” said resident Tamika Griffin. "A lot more will get done, too.”
