A woman was shot when she answered knocks at her front door in a Riverview neighborhood overnight, authorities said.

The incident happened around 12:30 a.m. Saturday on the 12000 block of Fennway Ridge Drive. Angela Morales, 37, was home with her husband and 9-year-old twins when she answered the door and was shot several times, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.

"It's traumatizing," said neighbor Rebecca Lloyd. "I have children, then I see the babies coming out and I think, 'how can someone do that with children in the house?'"

Detectives say a man wearing something on his face and possibly having tattoos fled in a dark, four-door sedan - possibly with a second shooter, since casings from two different types of weapons were found.

Morales was taken to Tampa General Hospital, where she is listed in stable condition. She has two other sons who live at the home, ages 17 and 21, but they were not home.

The husband and twins were not injured.

Officials said they do not believe that this was a random act and are investigating possible motives.

Detectives are asking anyone with information to call the sheriff's office at 813-247-8200 or Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay.
