With only two days left in the month and heavy rain on the way, we may break some records for summer rains.

Well, we will at least crack the top 5 in a few categories.

Here is a look at where we stand as of 7 a.m. Sunday morning. The data is taken at Tampa International Airport.

Tampa area Wettest August

1 - 18.59 IN 1949

2 - 17.83 IN 1898

3 - 15.64 IN 2015*

4 - 15.17 IN 1932

5 - 14.90 IN 2003

Tampa area Wettest July/August

1 - 28.31 IN 1960

2 - 27.48 IN 2015*

3 - 26.33 IN 1925

4 - 26.12 IN 1898

5 - 24.53 IN 1906

Tampa area Wettest Summer

1 - 43.03 IN 1945

2 - 36.13 IN 2012

3 - 34.79 IN 1909

4 - 34.67 IN 1960

5 - 33.71 IN 2015*

Also 33.71 IN 1925

So, with expected rainfall today and tomorrow, we should easily break the record for wettest July/August as we need less than an inch and that is certainly possible.

We would still need 3 more inches to have the wettest August and about 2 inches to get to the second wettest August.

As for the wettest summer ever, hopefully we won’t get 10 inches of rain today and tomorrow but getting to the third wettest or even the second wettest summer is possible
