Already weary of heavy rain and flooding, those living along the Withlacoochee River in parts of Hernando County like Ridge Manor are preparing for more wet weather in the forecast.

Things have gone from bad to worse along parts of the Withlacoochee in eastern Hernando and the river continues to rise. More roads are underwater and canoes are the best way to get around for some folks.

Anne Griggs-Swank has been watching the water creep closer to her home for about the past two weeks. A lot more rain could fall in the next few days, so she is thinking ahead.

"Keeping my fingers crossed that I won't need to evacuate," she said. "I really don't want to have to do that."

The residents we talked to say they have not seen flooding this bad in about 10 or 11 years.

The Withlacoochee reached flood stage earlier this month and shows no signs of receding. More yards and driveways are underwater. A lot more rain would not help the situation.

Justin Yager is already having trouble thanks to the river.

"It has reached my well," he said. "It's got my well nasty, the septic is blocked up."

There's a lot of concern out here and residents like Anne Griggs-Swank are keeping a very close eye on things.

"I've been watching you guys, you know, on Bay News 9 and I got weather alerts too," she said.

At this point we'll just have to wait and see what this river does next.

It looks like the Withlacoochee is forecast to rise above flood stage in parts of Pasco and Citrus counties in the next few days.
