A Gibsonton woman was arrested and charged with DUI with property damage after deputies say she rear-ended a patrol car that was stopped for a separate traffic stop.

Deputies say it happened Friday night on U.S. 301 S. near Palm River Road.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Deputies Jernigan and Johnson were northbound on U.S. 301 and stopped in the outside lane adjacent to Deputy Stout, who was parked on the east shoulder and on a traffic stop.

Deputy Jernigan was driving and he activated his bar light before stopping, deputies said.

While stopped, deputies said they were struck from behind by a blue 2007 Nissan 2-door car driven by 53-year-old Gertrude Horton-Wade.

Deputies said Wade did not apply her brakes before striking the patrol car.

Signs of impairment were observed by deputies on scene, the sheriff's office said. A DUI investigator responded and Wade was arrested on DUI charges.

Deputies said she refused to provide a breath sample. No injuries were reported in the crash.
