People in Tampa have been trying to battle the floods, even while riding the bus.

Several people on a HART transit bus were surprised by the water flowing into the bus as the driver attempted to make its way down Swann Avenue on Saturday. One viewer captured the flooded ride on a cellphone and the video quickly spread on social media.

“It wasn’t a hurricane or anything, but that flood was the worst I’ve ever seen, and I’ve lived in south Tampa my entire life,” said David Hernandez who lives along Swann.

Hernandez can be seen in the video standing in the knee-deep water, waving to the driver that the water was too deep.

HART public information officer Sandra Morrison said the supervisors and the operators were in constant contact with one another and followed protocol. However, the weather moved too quickly for them to keep up with the quick road closures and detours.

“It was an eye-opening situation,” said Morrison. “I don’t think anyone expected it to rain like it did.”

During a press conference on Monday, Tampa Police Assistant Chief Brian Dugan also mentioned the department had difficulty closing roads due to the quick and constant changes in weather.

All of the passengers, as well as the driver, were OK following the incident.
