Wednesday, Gas Express on State Road 54 was open for business.

But Tuesday was a different story.

"It was like dreaming, you know?” Suja Ahmad said. “You wake up early in the morning and you say, ‘Ah what’s happening,’ and it really hurt."

Tuesday water flooded the Gas Express parking lot, which sits on the Anclote River.

"About 9:30 a.m. we had to shut down the store,” Ahmad said. “The water had risen to the pavement so it was almost coming into the store."

By Wednesday morning the water had receded enough for customers to drive into the parking lot, but Ahmad said the gas tank is damaged and he estimates closing Tuesday lost the store about $3,000.

Other businesses along State Road 54 stayed open.

Modern Moose Studios made the decision not to close Tuesday, but had to get creative to get customers inside.

"Driving my truck through the water, taking them to their cars at McDonald’s then back and forth,” Steven Johnson, Modern Moose Studios owner, said.

Johnson said they were able to get a handful of customers into the tattoo parlor.

Some of the water covering Modern Moose Studios’ parking lot also went down Wednesday morning.

"It probably went down about two feet so it’s easier to traffic people through the water,” Johnson said.
