Two swimmers in Brandon may still be in high school, but their making a big splash in in competitive swimming.

Celi Guzman just set two records in Singapore at the Junior World Championships as a member of the Puerto Rican National Team.

“You just kind of think, 'Oh my gosh, I can’t believe I made it this far,'” said Guzman.

Christin Rockway just qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials.

“As a competitor, it's the top one percent of our sport, so it's a really big honor for me to go there,” said Rockway.

The two high school sophomores are best friends, and cheer each other at every competition. They both get up in early in the morning to jump in the pool to practice before school.

Their coach, Dave Gesacion, says their drive is what sets them apart.

“You wish every kid had that burning intrinsic motivation to get up at 4 in the morning every day to go to school, to go right back to school, and have a smile on their face,” said Gesacion.

The duo says while sometimes the daily grind can get tiring, they wouldn’t trade it for anything.

“It is really hard not to be like my friends who go out every Friday night. But just knowing I have a chance to make the Olympic team just makes me work even harder because that's such a huge honor,” said Rockway.

Both teens swim for Tampa Bay Aquatics in Brandon.
