The positive press continues for the city of Crystal River, and city officials say it's bringing an increase in tourism to the area.

The city is being recognized for its manatees, great kayaking and much more. Yahoo! Travel just named Crystal River one of the 12 best snorkel spots in the country.

Cody Cummins is a tour captain with Bird's Underwater Dive Center and says that sounds right to him.

"Only place in the country it is legal to get in the water and swim with a manatee," he said.

A website called FlipKey named Crystal River a top vacation rental destination. The city has been getting this kind of praise for a while now and it's sending tourism numbers through the roof.

"In 2014 we saw a huge jump and it seems to be carrying through right now," said Crystal River City Manager David Burnell.

Burnell says all the attention and the record breaking visitor numbers are great, but there needs to be balance. He says the trick right now is to keep residents and tourists happy and keep the manatees safe.

"Our longtime economic viability does now hover much more than it used to around the manatee, so we need to protect it."

So the word is out about this Bay area gem, as its popularity continues to grow.
