A visit to the emergency room can be very stressful, so one Citrus County hospital is getting on board with a trend to make emergency rooms more comfortable for senior citizens.

The staff at Seven Rivers Regional Medical Center has recently given their emergency room a makeover to make it more senior-friendly. Some of the improvements include comfortable beds, easy-to-read control buttons, recliners and calming wall colors that can lower blood pressure.

ER nurse Catrina Forget says it is a win-win for everybody.

"Those improvements that we made are designed and tailored to the old adult population, but everyone in our community is benefiting from them," she said. "The thicker mattresses, the bigger call lights."

The new beds in the ER have an alarm system that will warn the staff if somebody is going to fall out of bed.

Seniors who visit the ER will also get a case manager who will help them with medications, home safety and a lot more.
