It was supposed to be a new bike to celebrate moving to a new place and the start of a new school year.

Kelly Creger says she and her family just moved to Winter Haven from Indiana.

They bought their daughter Tiffany, 10, a new bike so that she could ride to Inwood Elementary School.

On Thursday afternoon, Tiffany said she was a few blocks from her house, riding the bike through the intersection of 17th Street SW and Lake Howard Dr. NW when she said a car turned into the intersection at the same time and they collided.

"I was really scared and stuff," said Tiffany Creger.

She said the female driver got out and asked if she was alright. Tiffany told her she was.

"Then she said she'd give me $20 and then she went back to her and came back with it.  She gave it to me and then she drove off, " said Tiffany Creger.

"She came home and showed her $20 to her grandma and me and I was very upset that there was no police report, she couldn't even walk her home and make sure she got home OK," said Kelly Creger.

The Cregers called police themselves.

They said the bike has damage to the rim and brakes.

Tiffany had some scratches and shoulder pain but she is going to be OK.

"Oh, I'm very grateful. I'm blessed. She's in one piece and nothing bad really happened. Couple of scrapes I can handle, but anything else I would have been really sad," said Kelly Creger.

Tiffany said she would like the driver to come forward and apologize.

"Then I would forgive her," she said.

Detectives said they are looking for a gold or tan SUV or van. If anyone knows anything about this incident, they're being asked to contact Winter Haven Police.
