A Bartow woman has been arrested in the death of her ex-husband.

Aundra Gammons, 56, was found dead from an apparent gunshot wound in the yard of his Hollingsworth Road home last week.

His ex-wife, Sherri, 44, who also lived at the home, was initially arrested on drug possession charges. She is now charged with one count of first-degree murder.

According to detectives, in the months, weeks, and days leading up to the shooting, Gammons made several statements to multiple people, including her family members, about her desire to "kill" the victim.

Detectives said on July 14, 2015, in the presence of her nephew, Gammons told the victim directly that she "should kill him" for insurance money.

Then, after the victim's death, detectives said Gammons made attempts to hire a lawyer to sue her own daughter for the insurance money.
