A Pasco County band director is going above and beyond for his students.

Pasco Middle School’s band is in need of updated instruments and their teacher plans to do everything he can to get them.

“I’ve got a tuba from the '80s that we’re playing on,” said band director Kenny Mathis.

Mathis has created a fundraising event called Country Jam that will raise money for new instruments.

“Once we get more instruments we could get our band bigger and we can sound better,” said 8th grade student and clarinet player Brooke Joslia.

Mathis hopes to make Country Jam an annual event that will grow each year so he can help bands at other schools.

“The sky is the limit, they can do anything they put in their mind to do,” said Mathis. “That’s our theme. If you want it, let's make it happen.”

The concert is being held October 10th at the Pasco County Fairgrounds.
