The man wanted in the double murder of two brothers working at a Palmetto convenience store has been taken into custody.

Devin Chandler, 25, was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon in Tampa by members of the U.S. Marshal Fugitive Task Force.

Palmetto police say Chandler shot and killed two brothers while they were working at the Snappy Quik Mart on 17th Street W on Labor Day.

One of the victims, Faares Yousef, was just 17 years old and was a senior at Manatee High School. The other victim was 23-year-old Khasem Yousef.

The double murder shocked the community and led to a statewide search for the shooter.

A day later, Chandler was arrested on warrants for homicide and armed robbery.

“He was taken into custody without incident, so we’re all very relieved this guy is off the streets,” Palmetto Police Chief Scott Tyler said.

Tyler said they were concerned as to what Chandler might do while evading arrest.

“Based upon what he did in the store yesterday, we were a little worried about any encounters he might have with people or law enforcement when we try to take him into custody,” he said.

Investigators were able to identify the suspect through surveillance video, which captured the murders inside the store. Officials are not releasing the video at this time.

Tyler said he doesn’t believe the victims knew the shooter. He said there was no struggle or dispute, just a shooting that took the lives of two brothers in an apparent robbery.

After Chandler is questioned, he will be brought back to Manatee County.
