In Tampa, high school seniors Hadley Chillura and Matt Cannella are about to turn an idea into reality.

Co-founders of Artists In Action, the 18-year-olds will present a fundraiser celebrating young local artists.

“It’s 20 different artists from different areas of Tampa," said Cannella, a Plant High student. "We have private schools, public schools. We even have one outside of Tampa. They’re all coming together to enjoy each other and sell art for the community."

Artwork will be available for purchase with the proceeds benefitting the Tampa Bay Community Foundation. Their goal is to raise $15,000 which will, in turn, be distributed to schools to support young artists in the making.

The idea came about after Matt recently visited Europe.

“I kind of saw people of different nationalities and races coming together and enjoying art just for the mutual benefit," he said. "And it kind of inspired me to do something like that here."

Both are avid supporters of the arts. Chillura, a student at Academy of the Holy Names, is also an accomplished artist.

“As an artist you can have the power to depict images and feelings and emotions and so many different aspects of your life and your paintings or your photographs, your sculptures," she said. "We have our own voice and that’s through our art."

The date is Friday, Feb. 19 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the historic 1901 Anderson House in South Tampa’s Hyde Park.

There is a small admission donation.

Food and drinks will be served along with piano, acoustic guitar and vocal entertainment.  All are welcome.
