A Carnival cruise ship was delayed returning to the dock at Port Tampa Bay by about 10 hours on Saturday because of weather conditions.

Port officials said the Carnival Paradise wasn't able to dock at the cruise terminal because winds were too high.

The ship was supposed to dock at about 5:30 a.m., but the ship finally made it to the dock around 3:30 p.m.

Passengers started disembarking the boat around 5 p.m.

Carnival issued the following statement around 2:45 p.m.:

"Today's scheduled arrival of the Carnival Paradise at the Port of Tampa was delayed as a result of weather and sea conditions. The ship was able to travel part way down the channel and dock temporarily at a cargo terminal. It is now en route to the passenger cruise terminal where it is expected to arrive later this afternoon. Guest debarkation followed by embarkation for the next voyage will begin shortly after the vessel is alongside at the Port of Tampa.

Guests departing on today's voyage were kept updated via text and email on the status of the ship's arrival.

Carnival Paradise is returning from a five-day cruise to Grand Cayman and Cozumel that departed on Monday, Jan. 18, from Tampa where it operates year-round."
