The family of a St. Petersburg woman is speaking out after their mother was killed in a deadly crash Tuesday night.

St. Pete Police say Suzette Crain was headed east, near the intersection of 26th Avenue South and 31st Street, just outside the crosswalk. That’s when a driver struck her as she crossed on her motorized scooter.

Crain leaves behind four daughters who range in age from 11 to 22. In an emotional interview they said how they never imagined they’d be mourning the death of their mother so soon.

“I didn’t think I’d have to bury my mom this young. It hurts,” her daughter, Ellyshia Tomlinson said.

Their faces were covered in tears and their hearts were heavy as they remembered their last encounter with their mother.

“Life is so short. You gotta appreciate your parents while you got them. Because I literally talked to my momma an hour before they came and knocked on my door,” Crain’s daughter, Ebony said.

Ebony says her mom was hit while she headed home on her favorite form of transportation, her motorized scooter.

“When my grandma passed in May of 2015 my uncle drove that scooter down here from New Port Richey on a bus to give that scooter to my momma,” Ebony said. “My momma was capable of walking she just wanted that scooter because it was my grandma’s.”

So now the girls are left to take care of each other as they try to find the money to bury their mother.

“We are not financially stable to bury her. I’m only 18 and I’m still in school,” Ellysha said.

It’s a tough loss for these girls but they’re trying their hardest not to forget how their mom would want to be remembered. Crain’s 11-year-old daughter, Earmya said it best. “She was very sweet. She was a kind lady. She always had love for everybody,” she said.
