The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has arrested a man in connection with dozens of car burglaries.

Torries Davis, 20, of Tampa is being charged with 55 counts of burglary of unoccupied conveyance, 48 counts of petite theft and three counts of grand theft.

On January 1, 39 vehicles were burglarized in the parking lot of the Lake Lucerne Apartment Complex in Brandon.

"They tried prying the door open on both sides and they couldn't get in with the Slim Jim so they ended up breaking my windows out and rummaged through all my stuff. Luckily, not too much stuff got stolen," said Joshua Stephenson, whose car was one of the ones that was broken into.

Just days later, 10 more vehicles were burglarized in the College Chase Subdivision in Ruskin.

Tampa Police said Davis is a suspect in cases within the city limits, as well.

Residents said the burglaries happened in the middle of the night and they didn't hear a thing.

"They were smart enough that even when they smashed the windows, they didn't open up the doors because the alarms would have gone off. They must have just crawled through the window," said Fred Luce.

Victims said the burglars stole things like credit cards, spare change and GPS's.

"Yeah, it's a pretty desperate person, you know, to spend all that time breaking in to cars. You could have gotten a job and probably gotten more money than you stole," said Stephenson.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is still looking for another suspect in this case.

They believe he's from Ft. Myers. They said he goes by the nickname "D" and has two tear drop tattoos under his right eye.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers.
