Three FEMA recovery centers have opened in the Bay area to help residents still out of their homes due to Hurricane Hermine.

More than a month after Hurricane Hermine blew through the Bay area, there are still residents who have not been able to return home due to storm damage.

To help residents hit hard by Hermine, FEMA recovery centers are now open in Hillsborough, Citrus, and Hernando counties.

Resident Joe Ogorman, who raised his family in his Weeki Wachee home, was at the Hernando recovery center Friday when it opened.

“We just took a $40,000 loan to remodel the house and to put in a new kitchen and everything," said Ogorman.

But when Hurricane Hermine happened, the storm surge brought in almost three feet of water.

“The whole house has broken in half," said Ogorman. "This side is down about four almost five inches lower than center."

Ogorman has flood insurance, but he's getting the run-around from his insurance company and doesn’t know what to do next.

“I just don't sleep because I’m always thinking 'What am I going to do with this? What am I going to do with that? How am I ever going to get enough money to rectify this if the insurance company doesn't do what they should?" said Ogorman.

In the meantime, he’s looking to FEMA for some possible assistance and direction. He’s been living in a camper since this whole mess started.

“It's a livable situation, but these [campers] are meant to go somewhere and spend the weekend or a week,” said Ogorman. “I may end up living in there for a year possibly more than that to build a new house."

As of October 11, FEMA has received 180 registrations for assistance in Hernando County, and has approved $290,000 in assistance. Statewide, there have been nearly 3,500 registrations with FEMA, and over $4 million in assistance approved.
