With just hours left in their homes, residents of the Mosley Motel spent Sunday packing up their belongings.

  • Residents of the Mosley Motel are being evicted
  • Deputies say they need to be off the property by 8 a.m. Monday
  • They were notified in August that evictions were imminent

They have to be off the property by 8 a.m. Monday.

"Financially, emotionally, it’s been draining everyone here,” said Carol Vanzyl, who has called the motel home for three years.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office went door-to-door Thursday with eviction notices.

"I freaked,” Vanzyl said. “It meant it was the end of the time we knew that was coming so it was just a matter of time before I knew I had to get out."

The evictions come after the property was sold to a new owner in August. The property will now be redeveloped.

"I think it’s bad because this is a family thing,” Vanzyl said. “Everybody helps one another, we are there for each other. Now they’re taking our home from us."

Some families have been able to secure new, permanent housing. Others say they will be staying at shelters. A few who were still at the motel Sunday said they still have no place to go.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said Monday morning they will escort anyone off the property who is still there.
