A Pasco school planning committee settled on a re-zoning plan Thursday to alleviate overcrowding in schools within the district.

  • Public will have a chance to weigh in on plan
  • Final decision to be made in January
  • New school currently being built in Wesley Chapel

If approved, the plan will mean moving many sixth through eleventh graders out of their original schools and enrolling them into an unnamed middle - high school being built in Wesley Chapel.

Pasco School Director of Planning Chris Williams outlined some of the neighborhoods that would be impacted.

"We're talking about areas to the west of I-75, along I-75," said Williams. "So along Old Pasco Road, those areas will be going to the new school, and some schools in the Meadow Point area, called Meadow Point Blvd, will be re-zoned to Wesley Chapel and Weightman Middle."

The boundary change is not a done deal. The public will get a chance to weigh in before a final decision is made in January.

The new school, meanwhile, is set to open next year. It will be named once the school zone boundaries are set.
