Lake Wales Police are investigating the shooting death of a convenience store worker.

  • Victim identified as Mohamed Allam, 48
  • Allam was shot outside view of security cameras
  • Crime Stoppers offering reward for information

Police say that security video shows two men in hoodies confronting 48-year-old Mohamed Allam outside a QP store at about 2:30 a.m. Thursday.

The suspects forced Allam to take off his pants and then, out of the sight of security cameras, they shot him. The suspects can be seen running away from the store.

Neighbor Charlie Gaines, a customer of the store, said Allam was a really nice man.

Gaines said gunfire woke him up. "Well, I couldn’t say what happened. All I know is I heard the gunshots, and I woke up. I heard a burst of three or four shots,” he said. "By the time I got to the door, I heard another burst."

Gaines thinks the gunmen knew Allam would be leaving the store and were waiting for him.

“It had to be somebody that was casing the place. That’s the only way I could figure it was," Gaines said.

Police said they don't have any good leads in the murder but are hoping for the public's help.

“Just anyone who knows anything or had heard talk...” Deputy Police Chief Troy Schultz said. “Whether it’s a little or a lot, if they would call us.”

Crime Stoppers is offering a $3,000 reward and the Lake Wales Police Department is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
