Authorities have identified the man that ran from a crash scene in Riverview Tuesday and attempted multiple carjackings before being shot dead by deputies.

  • Incident reportedly began around 3 p.m. with 3-car accident
  • Deputies say Isaias Salgado then fled into neighborhood, attempted other break-ins
  • Was shot and killed by deputies

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has identified the killed suspect as Isaias Salgado, 31, of Winter Haven. Deputies said the incident started when three cars were involved in an accident on Gibsonton Drive about 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

Officials said Salgado then left the crash scene and went to a nearby shopping center. Deputies said he tried unsuccessfully to carjack three people in the shopping center parking lot.

"None of our victims were injured as a result of his actions," said Hillsborough Sheriff's Office Colonel Donna Lusczynski.

Salgado then fled to a nearby neighborhood where witnesses saw him trying to break into cars and houses, authorities said.

One resident told Bay News 9 that he was home with his 4-year-old and 10-year-old children when they heard banging on their door and saw a man trying to get in.

"They could have been potential victims," said Lusczynski.

Deputies said they approached Salgado and he attacked one of them, Deputy Stuart Gray, with a brick.

Deputy Gray then fired at Salgado and killed him.

Deputy Gray received minor injuries, but was not taken to the hospital. He has been placed on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

Salgado had previous arrests on multiple charges, including armed carjacking, armed robbery, battery, trespassing, posession of dug paraphernalia and probation violation.

Authorities are still investigating.
