Category 3 (major) — 111-129 mph winds

Major home damage
More widespread tree damage
Power and water unavailable for days to weeks

Category 4 (major) — 130-156 mph winds

Severe home damage with roof loss and/or some exterior walls
Most trees damaged
Downed power poles
Power outages for weeks to months
Much of the area affected will be uninhabitable for months

Category 5 (major) — 157+ mph winds

High percentage of homes will be destroyed
Fallen trees and power poles will isolate neighborhoods
Power outages for weeks to months
