A homeowner in Hillsborough County watched a deputy-involved shooting unfold in his front yard.

Steve Leske was watching cartoons with his children on Oak Ridge Avenue in Riverview when he heard loud banging on the door.

"It wasn't a regular knock. I jumped up, the kids jumped. I looked out out the peep hole to see what was going on," Leske said.

He saw Isaias Salgado and a deputy’s cruiser. He didn’t open the door.

"The guy turned and was running toward the cop car, and I saw him throw a brick at the cop," said Leske.

The altercation continued, and Leske said Salgado charged the deputy again. That’s when Leske said Salgado was shot and killed.

Video surveillance from outside of his home shows Salgado knocking, then picking up a brick by the front door. The video shows him turning around to run toward the front yard, but the deputy cruiser cannot be seen in the video.

Salgado had been in a car accident moments earlier, deputies said. He then allegedly tried to carjack several people to get away. A witness followed him to the neighborhood where he was then trying to get into people’s homes.

Leske said he’s lucky he keeps his doors locked.

“He’s definitely trying to get somewhere. Away from the cop. Hostage maybe, I don’t know,” said Leske.

Deputies tried to use CPR to revive Salgado before the ambulance arrived.

Salgado had a criminal record before Tuesday's incident.
