There is a smelly problem in Hillsborough County, as crews are working on a major sewage spill.

  • Pipe broke loose about 5:30 p.m. Friday
  • Crews worked until Saturday morning cleaning up
  • Repairs should be completed by Monday

Officials said Saturday that 200,000 gallons of raw sewage spilled out into Rocky Creek.

There is a broken sewage pipe near the 7000 block of Dane Wood Court in Town ‘n’ Country.

Bay News 9’s Trevor Pettiford said the water is off limits to residents. The 24-inch bypass sewer pipe broke loose at about 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Crews worked until 1 a.m. Saturday getting the mess cleaned up.

“We fixed the bypass, got the raw sewage contained and today were swapping out the bad valve for the good valve, and that was in the contract,” said contractor Brian Driggers.

The bypass pipe is back in place, but crews still have work to do this weekend to get the sewage pipe fixed and covered again.

Repairs on the broken sewage pipe should be completed by Monday.
