The Armed Forces History Museum in Largo will close next year.

The closure will take effect Jan. 29, the museum announced on Wednesday. It's located on 34th Way North.

The museum had been operating in the red.

According to the museum website, it was founded in 2008, with a goal of "preserving military history and providing education to the public of the many sacrifices made to protect our freedom."

The only hope to keep the museum open is for an organization or benefactor to step foward and help.

The museum has about 130,000 items, many donated by veterans and their families.

The museum's last official event will be held Dec. 7, remembering the attack on Pearl Harbor. Survivor William Montfort will be in attendance and will be celebrating his 100th birthday.

Doors for the event open at 10:30 a.m.
