A Bay area prevention program aimed at helping at-risk children is in danger of losing its funding.

The Prodigy Cultural Arts Program began more than 15 years ago. It teaches children life skills through dance and music.

But administrators are worried about the program's future. Money to run Prodigy has not been added to next year's state budget.

"It's important that we maintain our funding," said Prodigy Director Mike Trepper.

Last year, the program received $4.6 million from the state to serve six counties in Florida. Administrators have already started a lobbying campaign to keep the funding for next year.

One of the students said the program has really changed his life.

"When I was in the streets before, they wanted to jump me for my bike. And so when my mom entered me in this program, it helped me a lot," he said.

There will be a concert for Prodigy at the University Area CDC on Dec. 10.
