Officers responded to reports of a possible grenade found at a private beach area but later said the item was made of plastic and was a child's toy.
Public Information Officer Yolanda Fernandez said someone called police about a young child - around 3-years-old - finding the item Friday morning.
The item was found near 2834 Pelham Road North.
Authorities said that out of an "abundance of caution," the Tampa Bomb Squad was called to the scene to investigate.
