Last minute shoppers are out and about in the Bay area.

And in the last few days before Christmas, some Bay area shops and stores are helping out shoppers.

A few stores are even staying open 24 hours straight.

Toys R Us is staying open 39 straight hours and Kohl's has been open since Wednesday and won't close until Saturday.

Retailers are making sure no what what type of schedule shoppers are on, there is time for them to get their shopping done.

"I do it early in the morning because I work nights," said Kohl's shopper Barbara Blumenthal. "So the stores aren’t really crowded and that’s good for me."

All of the Bay area malls are open for extended hours and several major department stores are opening early and staying open until midnight or later. Target, Walgreens, Costco, Publix and Walmart will all be open for extended hours up until the holiday.

Some shoppers said they appreciate the extended hours.

"When I had small children I really did appreciate those hours because I could put them to bed, leave them with their dad and go out and do a little elf work," said shopper Cathy Elder.

But as busy as the stores still are with last-minute shoppers, the bulk of the Christmas shopping is already done.

According to the National Retail Federation, the busiest shopping day this year was last Saturday, which was called Super Saturday. An estimated 156 million people were out in the stores.

The NRF also found that 12 percent of people said they were planning to buy their last gift Friday or Saturday.
