Two people were seriously injured after being hit by a tractor trailer Saturday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

A tractor trailer transporting a large transformer was traveling on North Combee Road near Centurion Drive in Polk County, troopers said.

  • Two tractor trailer spotters were seriously injured when they were struck by the trailer
  • Spotters accidentally fell into the path of the trailer
  • Both men were transported to Lakeland Regional

FHP said there were two spotters walking alongside the trailer due to the size of the load. They were observing for hazards and controlling the dollies when one of the men stumbled over a raised concrete lane marker and fell into the path of the trailer.

The other spotter attempted to help, when both men were struck by the trailer wheels traveling at approximately two miles per hour.

The two men - Alberto Nava, 24, and Ronnie Baker, 27, both from Kentucky - were transported to Lakeland Regional with serious injuries.

The driver of the trailer, Nicholas McIntosh, 51, was not charged.
