A Hudson student who first picked up the trumpet five years ago will be heading to Carnegie Hall to perform in an honors ensemble.

Shane Falco, 16, was chosen from thousands of students around the world.

"I enjoy it a lot," he said. "It's really grown a strong connection to me, and it's become a really big passion to where I want to make it a career," Falco said.

Falco plays for Fivay High School's marching, concert and jazz bands. He also plays for honor bands around the Tampa Bay area. But he doesn’t have a preference in music.

"Is it pleasing to the ear? Yes, then I'll play it," he said.

Falco's music was pleasing enough to land him a spot on the honors performance series at Carnegie Hall.

"He puts in a ton of time practicing. He comes in in the morning to warm up before school," said Falco's band director, Allison Synnett. "He's in jazz band, he's in regular band, he stays after school to help students get better."

That dedication led him to be one of 750 students chosen from a pool of 18,000 nominations around the globe.

"When we get to those big moments in music, you can just feel the emotional connection everyone is having," Falco said.

It's a moment he's counting down the days to, where he will not only play for but learn from world-renowned conductors in the Big Apple.

Falco will head to New York in the beginning of February. He is currently fundraising for travel, food and lodging for him and his grandfather to attend.
