It’s that time of year of giving and spreading cheer. At Publix in Inverness, customers have been getting a special visit from Santa and a show.

  • Frank Miller has evolved into Santa over the past 10 years

What you see is not just a man in a Santa suit. Frank Miller has been evolving into Saint Nick for the past decade.

“When you look like this it’s not an accident really, there’s a responsibility that goes along with it,” said Miller.

That responsibility, he said, is to keep the holiday spirit of giving going all year around.

Miller said he started evolving into Santa after his church asked him to be in their Christmas program 10 years ago. Since then, he hasn’t stopped volunteering his services.

This time of year Miller is especially popular among the young. Miller, as "Santa", plays his saxophone outside the Inverness Publix, raising money for The Salvation Army.

Armed with a stack of ones of his own money, Miller at times bargains with passersby to get donations.

“Alright you put in a buck, I’ll put in a buck. How’s that?” said Miller to one such potential donor.

He also has little red tokens.

“That’s for you," said Miller, giving one of the tokens to a young child. "It says, 'Caught you being good!' See, right there with my face on it? And on the back it says 'Good for one gift -- put it under your tree.'"

Those tokens he keeps on him all year.

“They always look at me kind of funny and when they do that, then I know,” said Miller.

He does it for a very simple reason.

“Cause the reaction is just priceless,” Miller said.

That’s why if you run into Miller, feel free to call him "Santa Claus." He’ll respond with a smile and probably a song.
