A 13-year-old middle school student has been arrested and charged with bringing a gun to school.

The Manatee County Sheriff's Office was called out to Harlee Middle School on Thursday afternoon after school officials received information that a student had a firearm on campus.
Officials determined that the teen brought a loaded handgun to the school. Deputies also found a small amount of marijuana in a backpack belonging to the middle school student.
The teen told deputies he found the gun on the side of the road.
The student has been charged with possession of a firearm on school property, carry concealed firearm, possession of marijuana under 20 grams.
