A couple escaped injury early Friday when flames swept across their Thonotosassa mobile home park.

According to Hillsborough County Fire Rescue, the fire broke out just after 3 a.m. at a unit in the Hutton Mobile Home Park at 10701 Toby Lane. 

The couple was asleep in the home when they awoke to smoke and flames. They managed to get out and get two of their three pet dogs out. One dog perished in the fire. 

Firefighters were able to keep the flames from spreading to neighboring mobile homes. However, their mobile home was destroyed. 

An investigation into the fire is ongoing. The couple said the fire may have started in the kitchen. 

Fire officials said the fire does not appear to be suspicious in nature. 

Officials have not released any further information.
