Students at a high school in Tampa celebrated the grand opening of a student-operated, on-campus barber shop on Monday.

"Tiger Claw'd Barbershop", staffed by students at Middleton High School, provides for discounted rates haircuts, styles, waxing, and even manicures and pedicures.

According to school administrators, running the shop teaches teens about much more than just being being a barber.

"We're not just teaching kids how to cut hair, or to wash hair or those things that you would do for somebody else. What we're actually teaching our kids is how to be a business owner," said Middleton High principal Kim Moore. "We're teaching them how to be an entrepreneur."

Student staff at Tiger Claw'd all are enrolled in an advanced barbering class at Middleton. Together, they spent months coming up with the name of the shop, along with the concept and marketing plan, so for them, today was a very big day.

"I'm excited, nervous, all wrapped up into one," said Middleton High senior and Tiger Claw'd staff member Kennedy Hayes.

Money that students receive for haircuts go back into the shop to help pay for equipment and supplies.
