A 69-year-old woman was killed early Monday in a single-vehicle crash in Lake Hamilton.

According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, Perry Cope Worth was driving southbound on US 27 in a GMC Yukon SUV at 4:25 a.m. when the crash happened.

Authorities said Worth was on US 27 just south of Crump Road in Lake Hamilton when the vehicle drifted off the road to the right. Perry appears to have overcorrected, turning sharply to the left and entering back onto the roadway.

The Yukon began to rotate counter-clockwise when it came back onto the roadway. The vehicle then flipped several times as it went across three southbound lanes.

Deputies said Perry was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

According to the sheriff's office, speed may have been a factor in this crash. Impairment is not suspected and distracted driving will be further investigated.

Deputies said Perry's seat belt was found buckled and tight against the seat, indicating Perry had been sitting on the belt and not using it.

An investigation is ongoing.
