A Citrus County high school teacher has been suspended and is facing possible termination in the wake of claims of a Christmas party that included alcohol and marijuana.

According to students, Citrus High English teacher Josephine Breviario hosted a "ugly Christmas sweater" party at her home Dec. 12 and provided alcohol, let them smoke marijuana and discussed sex with multiple students.

The school district has been investigating and, on Tuesday, board members approved the superintendent’s recommendation to suspend Breviario.

According to partner newspaper the Citrus County Chronicle, Superintendent Sandra Himmel said she could not comment on the issue pending a potential hearing to rule on Breviario’s termination. Himmel, however, deferred to Assistant Superintendent Jonny Bishop.

“As educators, we are held to a higher standard than others,” Bishop said. “That expectation doesn’t end at the end of the school day. We carry that standard of expectation 24/7, 365.”

Breviario, 42, acknowledged hosting the party in which about 40 students attended. However, she denied any wrongdoing.

After their investigation, school district officials, the Citrus County Sheriff's Office and the Department of Children and Families allege that Breviario supplied the students with alcohol, talked with them about marijuana use and gave tips to female students on how to perform sex acts.

Investigators say as many as six students reportedly spent the night at Breviario's home because they were too drunk to drive.

Interviewed during the investigation, students gave varying accounts. Some students denied seeing anything that was reported to investigators. Others corroborated the claims.

Aside from her job being on the line, the Sheriff's Office could choose to file criminal charges.

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office has not commented, only saying the case remains an open investigation.
