Next week we’ll find out if the hit movie “The Martian” will take home an Oscar for best picture. And If you’re a fan of the movie or just Mars in general, you’re going to love what you can see from your very own computer.

NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory released a new 360 degree video of Mars that allows you to feel like you’re on the planet. You can almost experience what it’s like to be inside a crater on Mars courtesy of the photos taken from the Curiosity Mars rover.

The rover is moving over the dune with a wheel and scoops up samples of sand for lab analysis and taking photos.

Bay News 9 spoke with one of NASA’s social media managers via SKYPE and learned these images are in high demand.

“We got an urgent message from NASA headquarters saying Mark Zuckerberg wants your file. So that was pretty fun to hear that it was raised to his attention that we had actually posted that first 360 degree video on Facebook. And he did take our file and posted it himself and that allowed for five million more people to have that experience and see the image,” said Veronica McGregor.

McGregor says it’s really helpful for science teams to see the rover like this especially since they want to see the accumulation of dust and dirt that’s covering up some of the instruments on Curiosity.

Expect more images to come.
