A caregiver to a 96-year-old woman is accused of stealing nearly a half a million dollars from the victim's accounts.

Pinellas County Sheriff's detectives said Lisa Rae Claffey, 54, used some of the money to pay off her mortgage and purchase a vehicle.

Detectives began their investigation in August 2015 after it was reported that the victim had unauthorized amounts of money taken from her bank account.

The theft occurred between May and August 2015 and resulted in over $460,000 being stolen from the victim.

According to detectives, Claffey used forged and falsified documents to take money from the victim's bank account and place it into her own accounts.

Claffey is charged with one count of grand theft from persons 65 years of age or older.
