A Bradenton man armed with a knife was shot and killed Sunday afternoon by a Manatee deputy after he came at the deputy in a threatening manner, the Sheriffs’ Office said.

It happened just before 5 p.m. when deputies were called for a domestic disturbance at 4813 Bookelia Circle in Bradenton.

The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office said 49-year-old Donna Stoddart told deputies her husband, Marc Stoddart, 50, had been drinking and was armed with a knife, and threatened to harm her and himself.

When deputies arrived, the Sheriff’s Office said Donna Stoddart had managed to escape and Marc Stoddart was he outside, armed with a knife and had cut his wrists.

Investigators deputies confronted him and told him repeatedly to drop the knife.  When he refused and came at the deputy in a threatening manner, the deputy was forced to fatally shoot him, the Sheriff’s Office said.

No one else was injured.

The deputy, whose name has not been released, was placed on routine administrative leave while the incident is investigated, the Sheriff’s Office said.
