Manatee County will host a regional meeting of the Florida Division of Historical Resources on Feb. 16 to get community feedback as it updates Florida’s Comprehensive Historic Preservation Plan.
The meeting will be held at Carnegie Library, 515 10th Avenue West, Palmetto on Tuesday, Feb. 16, from 1-5 p.m. This visioning process is to update the Plan for the next five-year cycle. To be effective, the new plan must represent a broad base of public and professional input, so all are welcome to attend.
According to the Department of State, “the primary purpose of Florida's historic preservation plan is to provide guidance for the implementation of sound planning procedures for the location, identification and protection of the state's archaeological and historic resources. The development and implementation of a comprehensive preservation plan should assist Florida's preservation organizations in their efforts to protect Florida's rapidly dwindling historic and archaeological resources.”
