A motorcyclist was killed Sunday afternoon in Mulberry when an SUV pulled out into the roadway directly in front of him.

Polk County deputies say Anthony Craig Cook, 43, of Seffner was traveling westbound on State Road 60 on his 2012 Yamaha motorcycle when the incident occurred.

As Cook approached Coronet Road, a 2004 Ford Explorer driven by Lucia Flores-Rubio, 23, turned left from Coronet onto SR 60. Cook's motorcycle struck the Ford Explorer's driver's side just behind the driver's door.

Cook was declared dead at the scene by emergency responders. Flores-Rubio was transported to Lakeland Regional Health, where she was treated for minor injuries.

Investigators say impairment and speeding do not appear to be factors in the crash. Cook was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. His motorcycle was reportedly traveling at highway speeds at the time of the collision.

Investigators later found that Flores-Rubio is not an U.S. citizen and does not have a valid driver's lcense. Upon her release from the hospital, she was taken into custody by deputies and transported to the County Jail. Flores-Rubio was charged with driving with no valid driver's license involving a crash death.
