The Lee County Medical Examiner's Office is working to verify whether a body found Thursday morning is that of a Myakka City man who along with his wife went missing on Lake Okeechobee earlier this month.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission officials say FWC officers responded to a call about a body found in the Clewiston area on the south side of Lake Okeechobee at about 9:20 a.m. They recovered a man's body.

The location is approximately 15 miles from where the airboat reportedly used by John Russ, 72, and his wife, Diane, 62, was found. Searchers located the airboat shortly after the couple failed to return from a fishing trip on the night of Feb. 6.

The body found Thursday was also about 3.5 miles from where a female body thought to be Diane Russ was found Saturday, Feb. 13.

FWC officers turned the body over to the Lee Medical Examiner's Office for verification of identity and cause of death.
