A bobcat is recovering after being hit by a vehicle near Brandon.

A driver noticed the injured animal in the road and notified authorities. Workers from Tampa's Big Cat Rescue brought the cat to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay on Friday afternoon.

The bobcat had several broken bones in its face.

The animal hospital is calling the bobcat Thor. Workers say he’ll recover for about six weeks at Big Cat Rescue, and doctors will then decide whether Thor can return to the wild.

Elsewhere, two rescued bobcats were released Thursday at a preserve in Highlands County. The cats were rescued last summer, after someone found them orphaned on the side of a highway.

Big Cat Rescue nursed them back to health. They were released at The Nature Conservancy’s Venus Flatwoods Preserve.
