Here's what you need to know about the Tampa Bay area's weather for Monday afternoon on to Tuesday:

  • Gale warning starting at 7 p.m. on Monday
  • Much colder on Tuesday and Wednesday
  • Warmer temperatures return Friday

Windy conditions will be the main theme to the forecast overnight into Tuesday.

A Gale Warning starts at 7 p.m. and continues through Wednesday for all Gulf waters out to 60 nautical miles and for Tampa Bay.

Very dangerous boating conditions expected to begin this afternoon and continue for 24-36 hours.

A strong cold front will cross the area this evening, bringing another round of high winds. Gale conditions are expected over the waters with waves as high as 15-17 feet offshore. Spotty showers may occur with the front, but due to the very dry air, any rain will be very light.

Seas will build rapidly to 10-20 feet tonight and even 2-4 feet over Tampa Bay.

After the front moves through, windy along the coast and breezy inland overnight. Lows from near 40 in northern areas to near 50 on the beaches in the morning. Wind chill will be in the 30s.

It will stay windy on Tuesday as another fast moving front crosses the Peninsula. Highs will only be in the upper 40s in our northern counties and mid 50s around Tampa Bay. It will be warmer in parts of Montana tomorrow than in parts of Florida!

A Gale Warning means winds of 34-47 knots.

A High Surf Advisory is also posted along the beaches for dangerous rip currents and possible beach erosion.
